No one wants to drive around in a dented, dinged-up auto. But dents are a reality for many drivers. We’ve all had to deal with one. When your car picks up a dent, there are several ways it can be handled.
Traditional Body Shop Repair
First, you can look into traditional body repair. This is the obvious course of action if you car has sustained serious damage in a collision. At the body shop the dent can be sanded down, filled with bondo, re-painted, and polished. This process typically costs hundreds of dollars. It can take several hours.
Paintless Dent Repair
Another alternative is to take your car in for PDR, or paintless dent repair. This can be done by a detailing shop. They will have a certified technician use tools to push and pull the damaged area into its original shape. For example, metal rods and body picks will be used to push dents. High and low points will be tapped into place. Glue may be used to push dents out. Depending on the damage, this process can take as little as half an hour. Typically the cost is hundreds less than traditional bondo repairs.
Do It Yourself
A final alternative is to do paintless dent repair on your own. A PDR kit can be purchased on Amazon for less than $20. However, this is not recommended unless you have plenty of experience working on your car. PDR is best performed by a trained technician, working for a company you trust, that stands behind its work. The last thing you want is to be driving around in a car with a shoddy repair; this can look worse than the original dent itself.
